Nursery Management

Nursery Management interns will gain hands-on experience in plant propagation, irrigation maintenance, pruning, pest and weed management, and more, with a focus on California natives and other climate-resilient plants. Interns will also support plant sales and other events, developing public engagement and event management skills.

Applicants must be available on Thursdays from 12 to 3 p.m. in the fall quarter.

Nursery Management

This internship offers hands-on experience in the daily management of the Arboretum Teaching Nursery. Interns learn the fundamentals of plant propagation, irrigation maintenance, phytosanitary best-practices, pruning techniques, weed and pest management, and tree production methods for a retail nursery. Interns will be exposed to a broad range of horticultural knowledge with a special focus on California natives and other drought tolerant, climate-adapted, wildlife-supporting ornamental and edible plants. Interns also assist our Plant Sales and other Arboretum and Public Garden events, developing their public engagement and event management skills.

Internship details

Quarters: Fall, Winter, and Spring
Schedule: Fall 2025 Thursdays 12-3pm, and occasional weekend events
Units: 1-2 units
