Behold the UC Davis Arboretum’s amazing Acacia collection

The UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden invites the community to take a guided tour through the Eric E. Conn Acacia Grove and experience this collection during its amazing winter bloom on Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m.; the tour leaves from Putah Creek Lodge.

One of the Arboretum’s most beloved collections, this grove features over 50 species of acacia from Africa, Australia and parts of the Americas. Most were planted to assist with the research of internationally recognized plant biologist Dr. Eric Conn who studied the chemical compounds these trees naturally produce to deter pests. Now, Arboretum and Public Garden staff are learning which species perform well in our Central Valley climate.

“We hope you’ll join us and enjoy the annual explosion of fuzzy and fragrant yellow blossoms and perhaps be inspired to plant one yourself,” says Maya Makker, museum education and interpretive manager.

Concerned about how all those all those flowers may impact your allergies? Don’t be! Acacia pollen is too heavy to be wind-borne and typically does not cause adverse reactions.
